I have been painting murals since 2000, because this art form allows me to come out of the studio and to access communal urban spaces. I enjoy getting close to the pedestrian who is outside the charmed circle of the precious cognoscenti of the art world. This direct contact with the man in the street gives me scope to challenge worn-out clichés and to debunk popular myths. My murals tell my personal stories, play with colour/composition and invite the viewer to share in my obsessions, fascinations and pet-hates. The importance of the mural goes beyond the engagement with the public space, because it beautifies and humanises vast industrial landscapes of big cities and I have been working with the younger generations for quite a few years in an effort to infect them with my love of the genre.
